WHAT IS A STENCIL OR TEMPLATE?

Stencils are designs for a paint template that is used to decorate walls, furniture, and paintings. Most templates are made of plastic, including the ones we use. You can work with it on various surfaces such as paper, cardboard, canvas and Powertex decorations.

WHICH MATERIALS CAN I USE ?

Various small and large palette knives, sponge, brush, foam roller, adhesive tape
Powertex, Easy Structure or other pastes, whether mixed with color pigment or not.
3D Sand mixed with Powertex or Easy Structure.
Regular acrylic paint mixed with 3D sand for more body and fast drying.
Bister or Liquid Power in spray

HOW TO USE THE STENCILS.

Have all the materials ready you think you will need. If you are working directly on paper or cardboard, it can be useful to glue the stencil in place so that it cannot move. The technique we use the most is as follow: first apply a primer of Powertex onto your surface and let it dry. Mostly Powertex White or Ivory is chosen as first layer . If desired, add a few more layers with extra texture and / or color. Build up your work as much as possible. Place the template in the right place on a dry surface. Take Easy structure, (whether mixed with color and / or 3D Sand) on your palette knife and divide it over the template. The harder you press, the thinner the remaining layer. If you press less hard on your palette knife, you will be left with a thicker layer. You can either letthis dry as is or spray a little color on it with bister and / or Liquid Power. Let it dry well before finishing it with more color.
